About

Drawing NYC is a ten-year project inviting people from all skill levels to draw, share, and exhibit their creative work. The group meets regularly in a welcoming environment, supporting and motivating each other to create and develop their craft.

Sessions

The figure drawing sessions are designed to help artists hone their skills. In addition, participants learn to observe the model and make marks on paper but also aids them in discovering their unique artistic style. During breaks, artists can stroll around the studio to view other students' work, ask questions to deepen their skills, and grow at their own pace as they continue to draw.

Exhibitions

For the Sketch group show, we invited artists to crop one of their existing drawings into an 8-inch square format. This process isolates and highlights details within the artwork, magnifying subtle features in the figures. Viewers gain insight into the thought process that often comes naturally to the artist.

Draw-a-thons

The drawing marathons are intensive drawing and painting events designed to help artists better understand and express themselves through long-durational sessions. The marathon is egalitarian and led by monitors and participants who show commitment, concentration, and stamina to create solid and surprising works.

Info

Drawing NYC is a ten-year, long durational drawing project. To facilitate this, I started several weekly drawing groups, accidentally cultivating a small but vibrant community. As the group expanded, we hosted various events to showcase our collective work and activities, including art shows, drawing marathons, and this website. This initiative would not have been possible without the invaluable help and support of the studios and individuals who generously shared their time and space. See the list of People and Spaces above.
